The rocks of Pedra Branca stand 30km from the southernmost point of land of Australia's Tasmania. Sticking out of the Tasmanian Ocean, the rocks are a magnet for massive swells coming up from the Antarctic. The wave that breaks there is no ordinary wave – it’s a monster that lives where the world ends. 22 fishermen and scientists have died out there there. Trips out here usually involve helicopters, boats and rescue teams. Known for years as a surfing tow-in spot for only the most fearless, unpredictable winds have kept windsurfers ashore - until now. In 2015, Australian windsurfer and student Alastair McLeod, teamed up with Tasmanian big wave surfer Marti Paradisis to plan, prepare, forecast and learn the conditions required to windsurf out to Pedra Branca and ride the monster of a wave. Riding a wave at Pedra Branca isn’t the first challenge – getting out to and catching it is. When else do you get the chance to face your fears? Son Jarocho Son Jarocho is a unique hybrid genre of song and dance which emerged out the cultural melting-pot of the Spanish colony in Veracruz, Mexico over three hundred years ago. A musical culture with strong African roots, it also retains Spanish and Indigenous elements, and is both steeped in a proud purist tradition but also evolving through some of its hallmark features of improvisation, appropriation and fusion. And yet, the vast, multifaceted realm of globalization is a whole new matter. Son Jarocho is experiencing a period of growth like never before, creating a tension between the ways of the old and the ways of the new. Antes como Antes, Ahora como Ahora (Before like Before, Today like Today), an independent feature-length documentary film by Australian filmmakers Blake and Tristan Copland, sets out on a journey of encounters across the broad Son Jarocho community, from the hot coastal plains of Southern Veracruz to the hustling urban realms of Los Angeles. At a time when Son Jarocho is redefining itself at the crossroads of globalization, the film is simultaneously a celebration of the genre’s diversity while also affirming the close ties that exist between the ranches, villages, cities and nations: an unbridled passion for life and creativity, family, political struggle, and most importantly of all, the fandango. Project Statement We have been considering the ways in which our own journey over the last three years has come to shape the actual story itself. During the project, we have steered clear of any those rigid or exacting guidelines often overemphasized in filmmaking – let alone, life itself - preferring to let the journey be guided by a river-like flow of encounters: one aspect of the culture revealing another, each element augmenting the other like a vast expanse of fabric which tightens intricately over Veracruz, so that our understanding and appreciation of it was continually developing. We also suspect that, such is the unique, evolving complexity of Son Jarocho, such a process could indeed go on forever. Our preference for this way of doing things has been not only based upon our aims as filmmakers; it also reflects our passion for music and creative cultures. That is to say, this process of film-making for us has been a lived-process. Initially, we were drawn to this musical culture not as a filmmakers but people who see music as the language of the universe. Indeed, this still is the case. Son Jarocho only reminds us so.</image:caption>

Christine approached a stage in her life where she needed something different, a new challenge, but not just another holiday. On a previous trip to the wildlife parks of Africa, she came in contact with some of the poorest communities on earth, particularly the people of the Masaai tribes in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. In particular, she was profoundly moved by how underprivileged the women and children were. Reflecting upon this, she decided that she would like to do something to help the less fortunate. She did not know which charity she would work with, or how to go about it. From here her idea began to take shape. A few of her colleagues and friends asked if they could donate. So, with a few thousand dollars as a basis, Christine started a charity - the Make a Difference Charity. She was overwhelmed by the response, and soon she had raised enough funds to realize her vision and go to Africa. In a Maasai community wrought by drought, the Make a Difference program brought the means through which to build housing and toilets at schools; and also constructing bore water pumps and implementing education programs. In collaboration with the Make a Difference program Christine developed a Non-Profit organization with Maasai village leader Daniel Sukuda and a Maasai lady Veronica Selena called Maasai Education and Community Support (MECS). This initiative was developed purely to hand over monetary responsibilities; development and support back to the Maasai people.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>This is a segment from "Wild Kopi Jawa: 170 years of lost coffee tradition re-discovered". The Mandailing Province of West Sumatra’s highlands has been hailed as one of the world’s premium coffee growing regions since the Dutch East Indies Trading Company began their plantations in the 17th Century. The strains of Arabica grown in this region produced such exceptional coffee, that it gave the Dutch a total monopoly on the global coffee trade for over 200 years. Prized throughout Europe this strong, black, rich, sweet coffee - Kopi Jawa, or Java, was then lost to the world and thought to be extinct due the dissolution of the Dutch East Indies Trading Company, numerous local political struggles, the Leaf Rust plague of 1880’s, and eventually WWII. The plantations and the coffee trees were literally swallowed and strangled by the jungle. Then in 1999, on the highest ridges of Mandailing Estate, West Sumatra. Albert Taylor, an Australian from Wollongong, his wife Anita and her father Bapak, discovered a handful of ancient Arabica trees, grown to giant proportions over centuries - alive and flourishing in the jungle. Albert shares his story of the discovery and we search and find a type of coffee which sells for up to 1200 a kilo, Kopi Luwak.</image:caption>

The last Aborigines to walk to Australia, crossed the Torres Strait land-bridge 6000 years ago. No one has made that crossing since. One man is about in one and a half canoes. Zeb Walsh is a world champion paddle-boarder who lives for adventure-paddle. He has already distinguished himself from the rest of the worlds’ elite paddlers by leading the only team to ever cross Bass Strait – one of the planet’s most dangerous stretches of water. Having already paddled across Bass Strait with his bare hands – he will now complete the seemingly impossible; and cross the second sunken land bridge of Torres Strait. But its over 230km of paddling, camping &amp; hunting - he can’t do it alone. To attempt this paddle on a piece of fiberglass would not do this voyage justice. Our team will carve their own vessel from an appropriate tree in Papua New Guinea. Carve their own oars – and paddle their own canoe. This is a once 200 generation adventure.
